PPASI recognizes the rights of clients to confidentiality of all their personal information.
“Confidentiality” means that all clients’ information obtained during interviews, counselling, educational programmes, and/or at any other form of communication, verbal or written must be kept confidential at all times between the client and the Counsellor, AOD Practitioner, Social Worker, Supervisor, Manager or staff involved.
All clients are informed at initial interviews that the confidentiality rule does not apply if clients disclosed of any information regarding risk of harm to themselves and/or others. Appropriate authorities will be notified. Please refer to the “LIMITS TO CONFIDENTIALITY” below.
Limits to Confidentiality
Here are some of the circumstances that dictate when information must legally be reported by Counsellors and/or staff involved:
When clients pose danger to others or themselves, including harm to animals or destroying properties; When the therapist believes a client under the age of 16 is the victim of incest, rape, child abuse, or some other crime When the therapist determines that the client needs hospitalization;
When information is made an issue in a court action;
When clients request that their records be released to themselves or to a third party.
